Get Involved!
Today there are 6 billion people on earth and the human
population is growing by nearly 100 million people per year. This is 260,000
new people each day every day. The collective activities of this expanding
population have profound influences on the biosphere. The earth is truly
like a pot on the stove that is coming to the boil. Of the thousands of
human generations that have come before, no other has faced the real possibility
of causing the loss of a significant portion of the earth's species. Far
beyond the politics, economics, and social mores of our time, the singular
issues that will define the 21st century is the relationship between humans
and the planet.
The Center for Conservation Biology was founded in 1992
with the dream of developing the ecological equivalent of Thomas Edison's
famed Menlo Park. A place where a community of dedicated professional
scientists, students, and citizens could be brought together to focus
not on patents or profits but on developing lasting solutions to environmental
problems. Whether you are a student eager to learn research techniques,
a citizen interested in contributing time or resources to conservation,
or a landowner concerned about habitat management, the Center for Conservation
Biology needs your assistance.
