Mapping Nightjar Survey Routes and Stop Locations
Providing us with the specific locations for Nightjar Survey stopping points along your route is important for data analysis and archival. We ask that all volunteer participants mark the position of each survey stop by one of the following methods (click on available help file of certain methods for more details - each opens in new window):
1) a GPS unit
or, plotting location on maps provided by:
2) Google Earth
3) Google Maps
4) Hardcopy map for mailing (e.g., draw approximate locations of stops on photocopy of Delorme Gazetteer, TopoMap, or Google Maps/Earth products, or any type of map - the greater the detail the better the information)
Naming your own route:
All existing routes are coded by name and number. If you are creating your own route please use the following name and number convention:
County name where route begins + the last 4 digits of your phone number
e.g., Henrico1649
This name & number will be used to identify the route
Submitting Maps or Map Data
Digital GPS data, Google Earth/Maps data, can be e-mailed to mdwils@wm.edu. Please include Nightjar Survey on the subject line and route name and number in the body of the email.
Please do not scan maps for email. Their byte size are usually too large for our inbox.
Hardcopy maps, scanned maps, or data can be stored on CD or DVD, and mailed to:
