BRACKISH WETLAND: Proposed Actions

Actions (Objective 1)

Design and implement a monitoring program for fresh/brackish marshes.
Background and Progress: Some marsh types within this complex appear to be threatened by sea level rise. Although these marshes appear to support a breeding-bird community with relatively few species, some of these species appear to be declining. These habitat types are poorly represented in national monitoring programs. Information is needed to determine the status of these species and the nature of population trends.

Identify major complexes of fresh/brackish marshes.
Background and Progress: The mid-Atlantic Coastal Plain supports some of the largest complexes of particular fresh/brackish marsh types on the continent. These complexes should be identified and recognized for their importance to the conservation of this species suite.
